Abstract

The development of research and graduate training in agricultural science and technology requires academic competencies and institutional synergies for the promotion of current capabilities and their orientation in a context of new demands for agricultural research. This article examines the results from a survey of agricultural research capacities conducted at the national level highlighting the main characteristics of existing research groups and the opportunities for the development of national competencies on diferent reseach fields related to agriculture and agrindustry. Results show situations with different levels of development which are classified into two clusters of research groups. Kowledge about their distinctive characteristics are an imput for the implementation of policies for the promotion of agricultural and agroindustrial science and technology.
