Abstract

Ammonia assimilation enzymes were measured in modules of Lotus corniculatus between 14 and 28 days after inoculation with Rhizobium loti U226 strain. Plant dry weight, nodule fresh weight and nitrogenase activity were also measured. L. corniculatus nodule glutamine synthetase (GS), glutamate synthase (GOGAT) and nitrogenase activities increased during nodule development. Fourteen days after inoculation nodule GS and GOGAT activities were 30-fold higher than in roots. The highest values of nodule enzymes in L. corniculatus were found in 28 days old plants.
