Abstract

Yellowish steaks were observed affecting garlic and onion leaves in farms located in the horticultural area in southern Uruguay. Bacteria isolated from symptomatic leaves of both crops were identified Pseudomonas viridiflava (Burkholder) Dowson using traditional biochemical techniques. Both isolated were used to inoculate leaves and bulbs of garlic and onion in controlled condition, and produced similar symptoms in both species. This is the first report of P. viridiflava causing disease in garlic crops in the field.
